Description:

This course meets the training requirements set forth in the Business and Professions Code Section 4980.395(a) requiring all MFTs, LCSWs and registered interns to complete an approved, 3-hour course on Aging and Long Term Care.

This course will cover the following areas:
  • Various living options for the elderly
  • Mental Health issues that affect the elderly including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Depression and Alcoholism Health
  • Issues regarding nutrition and activities of daily living
  • Common health disorders including Alzheimer's disease, heart disease and diabetes
  • Ways to protect the rights of elders including the Ombudsman program, recognizing elder abuse
  • The mandated reporting responsibility

Targeted Audience:

MFTs, LCSWs, registered interns and anyone wanting to learn more about the aging process and options for long term care.

Learning Outcomes:

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:
  • Identify different living options available for seniors
  • Describe some of the mental health issues that seniors face recognize available treatment options
  • Explain the importance of nutrition for elders
  • Describe some of the Activities of Daily Living that seniors may need assistance with
  • Identify common health issues that seniors face and recognize available treatment options
  • Recognize signs of elder abuse
  • Explain responsibilities of a mandated reporter
