This course will give participants an overview of nationally-recognized best practice standards for residential care. The standards discussed in this class are based on those that have been established by the Council on Accreditation of Child and Family Services (COA).

This course will cover the following areas:

  • Define what a best practice is
  • Identify best practices in the following areas:
    • Needs based access to services, Family connections, Assessments, Service planning and monitoring, Permanency, Service philosophy, Coordinated team approach, Service array, Medical and dental services, Educational services, Preparation for community membership, Substance abuse conditions, Special Risk Populations, Facilities, Privacy Provisions, Care and Supervision, Transition from the Service System, Case Closing and After Care, Personnel
  • Explain how to implement best practices
